Hello, I’m John Melling and I’m a counsellor, a philosopher, and a gamer! I have been fortunate to be around computers my whole life – even as a child in the ’80s! I love computer games. Single or multiplayer, RPG’s and shooters, Epic 4X games and space flight simulators – they are all great! I have even been lucky enough to run my own computer building and repair business once upon a time, which proved very handy for keeping up with the latest gaming gear!
In addition to computer games, board games, and role-playing games, I enjoy indoor football and squash. I love reading fantasy and science fiction books and watching films and TV shows. At one time, I used to run tournaments for the Lord of the Rings trading card games in Christchurch!
I am passionate about supporting people managing anxiety and depression. Specialising in solution-focused and philosophical counselling, I also love to support fellow gamers that want to find a better balance between the many benefits of gaming and moving towards the future they desire.
I am very fortunate to be married to my wonderful wife, who also loves games! Together, we live with two mischeivous bunnies. Sometimes self-care is as simple as putting my feet up with a cup of tea and a furry friend!
John’s Qualifications and Counselling Modality
I utilise a Solution-Focused approach to counselling, paired with a philosophical curiosity to explore your best hopes from coming to see me. I am also trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). I am a full practicing member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).
